            The S&P BSE Sensex closed 25 points higher at 31,687 on Friday, with construction major L&T (up 4 per cent) being the top gainer and M&M (down 3.29 per cent) the worst laggard.

            The broader Nifty50 index of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) ended at 9,935, just 5 points higher with 17 constituents ending in the green and 34 in the red.

            Here’s a look at the top newsmakers of Dalal Street on Friday:

            Eclipse on Sun TV gains
            Shares of Sun TV took a beating amid reports that a CBI court will frame charges against the Maran brothers in connection with the ‘illegal’ telephone exchange case on October 3. Former Union Minister Dayanidhi Maran and four others accused in the case appeared before XIV Special Judge for CBI cases, S Natarajan, on Friday, PTI said. The stock ended the session at Rs 810 apiece, down 2.71 per cent on BSE.

            Dr Reddy’s catches cold
            Shares of Dr Reddy’s Laboratories cracked over 6 per cent after the drugmaker informed bourses that the company has received six major observations on its formulating manufacturing facility in Visakhapatnam. The company said that the auditor has cautioned the company that it will receive EU-GMP certification form the regulator by November 2018 only when the regulator approves the corrective and preventive action plan (Capa) of the company. The stock eventually closed at Rs 2,159 apiece, down 3 per cent.

            Building gains
            Shares of Larsen & Toubro (L&T) jumped 4 per cent amid high volumes. Brokerage Motilal Oswal Securities, which met L&T’s management, noted that the company continued to see a strong push by the government toward increasing infrastructure investments and areas such as T&D, water, rail, Metro rail, defence, smart cities and renewables were seeing positive momentum. The stock settled at Rs 1172 apiece.

            Rise & fall of Vaibhav Global
            Shares of Vaibhav Global had both sweet and sour times. In the morning trade, the stock surged 6 per cent on 37 per cent jump in its consolidated net profit for June quarter. However, the scrip slipped in the later trade and ended nearly 4 per cent down at Rs 545 apiece.

            IPO mart goes berserk
            The IPO of Bharat Road Network got fully subscribed on Day 3 of the bidding process. According to NSE data, the issue saw bids for 5,03,83,359 shares, which was 1.72 times the issue size of 2.93 crore shares on offer. On the other hand, Dixon Technologies IPO became a mega hit with issue getting subscribed over 117 times till the time of writing of this report.

            Realty bleeds the most
            In a sharp U-turn, realty stocks slumped the most after hitting a 3-year high a day before. The Nifty Realty index shed 1.47 per cent to close the session at 285.15 with all the 10 constituents settling in the red.
