The index opened at 3,543 and touched intraday high and low of 3,591 and 3,540, respectively, in trade so far.

The Nifty Metal was trading 0.21 per cent up at 3,585.7 around 11:23 am (IST) with shares of JSW Steel (up 2.22 per cent), Jindal Steel & Power (up 1.60 per cent), Ratnamani Metals & Tubes (up 1.23 per cent), Hindalco Industries (up 0.64 per cent) and Moil (up 0.10 per cent) as the top gainers.

However, Orissa Minerals Development Company (down 1.35 per cent), Hindustan Zinc (down 1.08 per cent), Vedanta (down 0.44 per cent), APL Apollo Tubes (down 0.34 per cent) and Tata Steel (down 0.28 per cent) were among the losers in the index.

All other sectoral indices on NSE were trading in red, barring Nifty Metal index.

Nifty Realty, pharma and FMCG indices slipped over 1 per cent in trade.

Benchmark indices remained low, in line with Asian peers.

Apart from continuous foreign fund outflows, deep losses at other Asian bourses and the US markets as investors reacted with dismay to lingering worries about North Korea nuclear crisis led to a slide in the domestic benchmark indices.

Nifty50 index was trading 49 points lower at 9,903, while the 30-share Sensex was 182 points down at 31,627 around 11.23 am (IST).

In the Nifty50 pack, 18 stocks were trading in green, while 33 stocks were in red.

On BSE, 1,122 stocks were advancing whereas 1,089 stocks were lagging.
