New merger of Caisses d’epargne in 2018 : are you concerned ?

On may 15, 2017, the Caisse d’epargne Alsace, Caisse d’epargne Lorraine Champagne-Ardenne announced that they would merge by April 2018. This new entity will have 1.7 million customers and 350 branches. What impact will this merger for the customers of these two regional banks ? Elements of response.

Comparative bank charges

Ten days only after the creation of the Caisse d’epargne Hauts de France – born of the merger of the Caisse d’epargne Nord France Europe and Picardy – it is the turn of the Caisses d’epargne Alsace and Lorraine Champagne-Ardenne to formalize their project of reconciliation. Project should be completed no later than April 2018, says the press release.

“The discussions around the reconciliation lasted for thirty years and the decision comes at the right time,” says Francis Henry, chairman of the board of orientation and supervision of the Caisse d’epargne Lorraine Champagne-Ardenne.

That will pay customers ?

For the moment, it is unclear what will be the tariff policy of the new bank. Is it that as soon as their merger, the two regional banks unified their prices ? Or is it that they will harmonize gradually their tariffs ? Mystery.

Anyway, the merger will likely have an impact to the customers of these two Caisses d’epargne. Why ? Simply because at the present time, they charge differently, some banking products everyday. Has the image of the Visa Classic, which costs at January 1, 2017 44 € to the Caisse d’epargne Alsace, from 41 € to the Caisse d’epargne Lorraine Champagne-Ardenne. Side account fees, customers of the caisse d’alsace pay 18 € per year (outside the package), compared with 15 € to the caisse de Lorraine Champagne-Ardenne.

44 € per year, which is a lot for a Visa Classic card ! The evidence by comparing free of charge bank fees on Panorabanques.

These prices are from tariff brochures 2017 Caisse d’epargne Alsace and Lorraine Champagne-Ardenne. They are valid excluding the Bouquet of Freedom, the package of the Caisse d’epargne.

In summary, in reading this table, we can say that if the two entities decide to align with the higher price – as is often the case – the customers of the Caisse d’epargne Lorraine Champagne-Ardenne should see their banking fees increase… definitive Answer in April 2018.
