Shares of Ashok Leyland (up 5.51 per cent) stood as the top gainer in the auto index after it reported a 25.11 per cent increase in total sales at 13,634 units in August. It had sold 10,897 units in the same month last year.
Exide Industries, Tata Motors, Bajaj Auto, Maruti and Eicher Motors were the other auto stocks that gained on their August sales.
Bajaj Auto (up 3.64 per cent) reported a 2.98 per cent increase in total sales in August at 3,35,031 units as against 3,25,347 units in the same month last year.
The country’s largest carmaker Maruti Suzuki (up 1.39 per cent) India reported 23.8 per cent increase in total sales at 1,63,701 units in August as against 1,32,211 units in the year-ago month.
Royal Enfield, the two-wheeler division of Eicher Motors (up 0.64 per cent), reported 21.99 per cent increase in total sales at 67,977 units in August.
The overall markets ended Friday’s session in green.
In the Nifty50 index, Dr Reddy’s, Aurobindo Pharma, Asian Paints, Tata Motors, Bajaj Auto, Hindalco and Tata Steel stood as the top gainers.
Benchmark Nifty50 index closed 57 points higher at 9,974, while the 30-share Sensex was 162 points up at 31,892 at the end of today’s session.
In the Nifty50 pack, 40 stocks settled in green, while 11 in red.
